Strategies for Professionals to Work with Siblings of Individuals with I/DD

In this presentation, participants will receive actionable information about how providers of supports and services can develop working partnerships with siblings of individuals with I/DD. Specifically, participants will learn the importance of partnering with siblings, feasible ways to collaborate with siblings, and ways to overcome challenges in working with siblings.

Meghan Burke, Ph.D., BCBA-D, is a professor of special education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests include parent advocacy, families (i.e., parents and siblings) of individuals with significant disabilities, and disability policies. Meghan's research examines how parents advocate for services for their offspring with disabilities. Additionally, Meghan conducts research examining how siblings of individuals with disabilities transition to caregiving roles.
