STATEMENT OF GOALS

I am honored to be nominated for the member at large position on the AAIDD Board of Directors and will continue to support the mission and objectives of AAIDD.  My goals for being in a member at large position on the Board will be to assist the Board in making decisions that would be appropriate for the success of the Association,   to be proactive in furthering the ongoing activities of the Board, to participate in all of the activities of the Board, including attending meetings, conferences and taking on leadership roles in these activities.  I am also committed to diversity with a goal to respect others and give others of diverse backgrounds an opportunity to be a part of the participative roles in the organization. 


BRIEF BIOGRAPHY:
  

Current Position:
Director of Education and Training at the State of Louisiana, Department of Health, Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities, Responsible for developing and presenting training and educational opportunities for providers who serve individuals with developmental disabilities.

Previous Positions:
Public Management Associate – Louisiana State University
Assistant Professor – Louisiana State University
Assistant Professor – Grambling State University

Education:
PhD - Louisiana State University - Baton Rouge, Louisiana
MA -  Atlanta University – Atlanta, Georgia
BA - Philander Smith College – Little Rock, Arkansas

AAIDD Participation:
Attended the AAIDD National conferences for the last three years, Served as a member at Large on the National Board of Directors for the last two years.  Facilitated a workshop at the 2019 National AAIDD Conference in St Paul, MN, served on several sub committees for the development of AAIDD position statements, served on the nominations committee and the awards and fellowship committee.

Activities/Awards:
I have participated in many AAIDD activities in the local and national arena, including meeting planning, board direction, and serving on sub committees.  I have been an active and participating member of the board of directors for two years. On the local level, I have been a board member of the Louisiana Chapter for over 10 years and served on the conference planning committee, the strategic planning and development committee, the vice president of training, the constitution and by-laws committees, and the awards committee.

I received the AAIDD Fellow Status in 2019, and was awarded by the Louisiana Chapter the Maurice Dayan Education Award in 2013 and the Helen S. Thompson Memorial Award in 2018.
