Down With Meditation: Case Study Of A Young Man With Down Syndrome
Presenter:
Joseph G. Tloczynski, PhD, Bloomsburg University
It is well documented through experimental research, the benefits associated with a consistent practice of meditation. The benefits include a wide gamut of wellness variables including: decreased stress, decreased anxiety, decreased depression, increased positive affect, increased ability to focus and sustain attention, increased cognitive abilities including memory, etc. It is also true that there are few to no studies of an experimental nature documenting if these findings would apply to individual who are born with disabilities such as Down Syndrome. Certainly if these effects do apply, they would greatly increase the wellness and resilience of those individuals. This case study is an initial attempt at rectifying that situation. I will present the results of the study along with a discussion of any potential challenges in applying meditation practices to a person with a disability.
This is an AAIDD webinar.
